Holocene glacial oscillations in the Tyroler Valley ( <scp>NE</scp> Greenland)

چکیده

Although the spatiotemporal oscillations of Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) during last millennia have played a prominent role in global environmental changes, its glacial response to natural variability still needs be better constrained. Here, we focused on reconstruction behavior and deglaciation process along Tyroler Valley (74° N, 22° E), within Northeast National Park. This NW-SE valley connects with GrIS via Pasterze Glacier divides two ice caps (A.P. Olsen Land Payer Land), this one feeding piedmont glaciers (Copeland Kløft glaciers). For study, combined interpretation spatial pattern geomorphological features chronological framework defined by new dataset 15 10Be cosmic-ray exposure (CRE) ages from glacially polished bedrock surfaces moraine boulders together optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) age glaciolacustrine deposit. CRE indicate that lowest parts highest slopes took place Early Holocene, at ca. 10–8.5 ka (ka = thousand year [BP]). Furthermore, thinning also favored disconnection tributary glaciers. Samples moraines was not continuous, but it interrupted least three phases advance Neoglacial cooling (before 5.9 ka), Little Age (LIA, 0.6, 0.3 ka). The larger glacier Glacier) occupied floor these major advances, damming river allowing formation proglacial lake upvalley, as confirmed OSL date lacustrine sediments yielded an 0.53 ± 0.06 ka. In short, our study provides evidence relative stability regional area, which fronts been rather stable since their advances LIA.

Lateglacial and early Holocene climate oscillations in the Matanuska Valley, south-central Alaska

Here we present multi-proxy data from two cores taken from Hundred Mile Lake in the Matanuska Valley of south-central Alaska to investigate the climate, vegetation and deglaciation history of the last 14,000 years. The chronology of the cores was controlled by five AMS dates. Sediment lithology changes from clay at 14–13 ka (1 ka 1⁄4 1000 cal BP), through marl at 13–8 ka, to gyttja at 8–0 ka. T...

Glacial rumblings from Jakobshavn ice stream, Greenland

The steep increase in Greenland’s glacial earthquake activity detected by the Global Seismographic Network since the late 1990s suggests that a close inspection of these events might provide clues to the nature and origin of such seismic activity. Here we discuss the detection of large, unexpected seismic events of extraordinarily long duration (10–40min) occurring about once every 2 days, and ...

study of glacial valley landform case study: sahand glacial valleys

abstract a mountain glacier, when it occupies a river valley, immediately begins to change the cross-section and profile of that valley. river valleys in mountain areas tends to have v-shaped profiles. glaciers work to widen as well as deepen their valleys and the typical cross-section of a glacial valley is u-shaped. the u-shaped glacial valley is one of the most characteristic of glacial land...

Tracking millennial-scale Holocene glacial advance and retreat using osmium isotopes: Insights from the Greenland ice sheet

High-resolution Os isotope stratigraphy can aid in reconstructing Pleistocene ice sheet fluctuation and elucidating the role of local and regional weathering fluxes on the marine Os residence time. This paper presents new Os isotope data from ocean cores adjacent to the West Greenland ice sheet that have excellent chronological controls. Cores MSM-520 and DA00-06 represent distal to proximal si...

Late-glacial and Holocene European pollen data

The European Pollen Database (EPD) is a community effort to archive and make available pollen sequences from across the European continent. Pollen sequences provide records that may be used to infer past vegetation and vegetation change. We present here maps based on 828 sites from the EPD giving an overview of changes in postglacial pollen assemblages in Europe over the past 15,000 years. The ...
